Frances Valintine is a technologist and an education futurist. She started her education career in 1991 promoting New Zealand export education in South East Asia. Frances then moved into specialist creative technology education leading Media Design School, staying on as CEO after Laureate International Universities acquired the institute in 2011.In 2013, Frances established The Mind Lab in Auckland with centres now located across the country.The Mind Lab is an inter-disciplinary learning lab offering science, creative and technology programs for school groups and professional development for teachers.In April 2014, The Mind Lab merged with Unitec to deliver postgraduate studies in Digital & Collaborative learning for New Zealand teachers. In 2014 The Mind Lab by Unitec won ‘Best Engagement of Youth in ICT’ at the 2014 NZ CIO Awards and ‘Best Start -Up in Asia Pacific’ – judged by Steve Wozniak and Sir Richard Branson. She is a board member of Education New Zealand and NZTech with specific responsibility leading the EdTech sector and the Women in technology group.
