An investor in education technology based in Asia, Allison Baum is a Managing Director of Fresco Capital, a global early stage venture fund. She is involved in all aspects of investment and operations of the fund, actively working with portfolio companies to connect with pilot programs, distribution partners, and co-investors in the region. She regularly contributes to the entrepreneurial ecosystem through writing and speaking about education technology startups and women in technology and venture capital, as an UP Global community organiser, and as a member of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community.Allison earned a B.A. in Economics and a Secondary Degree in Film Studies from Harvard University, where she also studied Japanese and French language. She spent six years working with institutional equity derivatives in the Securities Division at Goldman Sachs in New York. In 2012, she joined the start up world as an early member of NY-based tech education startup General Assembly where she developed and scaled their long-form courses in practical digital skills in technology, business, and design. Later that year, as Regional Director of Asia, she established and grew the company’s first programs in Hong Kong.She is also actively involved in social impact initiatives related to education, previously as an Associate Producer for the Microlending Film Project, a documentary about micro finance for women around the world, as well as the founding member of an education initiative called Arts and Enterprise for Women, which teaches business skills to refugee and asylum seekers in Hong Kong.
