University of Eastern Finland
The University of Eastern Finland is a university in Finland with three campuses in Joensuu, Kuopio, and Savonlinna. Dr. Erkki Sutinen, Keynote speaker at EdTech for Export 2014, is a full professor of Computer Science at the University of Eastern Finland. He is also the leader of the edTechD research group.
Sutinen’s research interests are in the uses of information and communication technologies for development (ICT4D), computer science and ICT education, creative problem solving, contextual design, and text tools for learning. He has been designing innovative educational approaches in developing countries and for special education. He has a 6 M€ portfolio of R&D projects, funded by various EU sources, Academy of Finland and the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation Tekes.
The latest are Improving the contextual impact of ICT education in southern Tanzania: Engaging stakeholders towards innovation (Academy of Finland, 2009-12, 400,000 €), Towards e-leadership: higher profitability through innovative management and leadership systems (TEKES,ESDF, 2009-12, 710,000 €) and Detecting and visualizing changes in emotions in texts (Academy of Finland, 2010-13, 524,000 €). He has supervised or co-supervised 19 PhDs.
